How to Deal with Wedding Stress
This article won’t save you any money, but it might save you a few headaches. Planning a wedding is a lot of fun. It is exciting to see your ideas come together to create the perfect wedding, but it is also a stressful job requiring the coordination of many different people, making lots of decisions, and spending money. It is easy to get overwhelmed and upset when planning such an important event, but here are some tips to help you stay calm and collected while planning your wedding.
Do Not Get Mad at Yourself
People planning their own wedding tend to feel a lot of pressure, especially if they are not used to planning events and making big decisions. They often feel like the success of the event rests on their shoulders, and when things go wrong, they blame themselves.
When it comes to weddings, nothing ever goes 100% as planned. Don’t beat yourself up if something goes wrong or if you make a mistake. It happens! While the details are important, keep your eye on the big picture–this is about two people who love each other. As long as you both get down the aisle and say “I do” your wedding day will be a success.
Be Organized and Prepared
With any type of planning, organization is key. Being organized from the get go will reduce your stress levels and help you keep track of your wedding plans and your expenses. When you have a clear wedding plan, it’s just a matter of following it. Start with a realistic budget and a list of the vendors/services you will need to book. Look at a typical Wedding Schedule to determine how far in advance to book each vendor. Try to write up a list of questions for each vendor ahead of time. This will help you get the answers you need. When you can have all of the right information, you’ll feel more in control and experience fewer “surprises” on your wedding day.
Make Time for Fun
While you have a lot of things to do, you don’t have to spend every waking moment entrenched in your wedding plans. People who spend too much time thinking about their wedding tend to over think things, agonize over simple decisions, and drive the people around them nuts. You should set aside time for your wedding planning sessions, but remember to get out and do something fun with friends or your soon-to-be spouse. It’s good to take your mind off of planning and remember why you’re getting married in the first place.
Exercise, Eat right, Stay Positive
This is more of a general life tip as opposed to a wedding planning tip, but it applies. When we’re stressed, don’t eat right, and don’t exercise, we get run down and feel miserable. By living a healthy lifestyle and maintaining a positive outlook, your body and mind will be better equipped to handle the stress of planning a wedding, and you’ll look great on your wedding day!
Share Your Feelings with Loved Ones
We all get overwhelmed and sometimes just venting to a friend or family member is enough to make us feel better. Try to keep your close friends and family in the loop bout how you’re feeling. Share your excitement and your concerns with them. You’ll feel better and they’ll feel good about being there for you before your big day.
If you have family members or friends who seem to be causing you stress, let them know how they are making you feel. You don’t want to let bad feelings boil under the surface and then explode, so be honest and open. It is normal for your friends and family to be a bit stressed as well, so try to see things from their point of view. Don’t let wedding related arguments or differences ruin relationships.
